Chowder goes up to the house, against DJ's protests, and rings the doorbell, causing the house to awaken, revealing it to be a monster. FILM STILLS
Chowder is also shown to be resourceful, as he is able to operate machinery; this is demonstrated when he uses an excavator efficiently to battle Nebbercracker's house at the climax of the film. His only real flaw is that he is timid and gullible from time to time. Chowder and DJ argued in the film a few times as Chowder risked his life for DJ as he stole Cold Medicine for DJ for the plan to kill the Monster House and even arguing that they cannot call "dibs on a girl".
Video Game
“Monster House” is unpretentious, smartly written (by Dan Harmon, Rob Schrab and Pamela Pettler) and a lot of fun. At the start of the game, Jenny and Chowder are separated from DJ, with Jenny getting stuck in the attic, while Chowder finds himself in the greenhouse. DJ, meanwhile, has to explore the first and second floors of the house, finding keys to unlock doors, and moving crates and uncovering secret passages, one of which leads to the basement, where he contacts Skull for information on how to deal with the house.
Meeting Jenny
Despite the clownishness of several characters, this nasty little nightmare-inducer maintains a dark, occult edge and follows the typical horror-movie template. If I say that “Monster House” is the best child-friendly movie of the summer so far (“Ant Bully” and “Barnyard” will expand the competition in the next few weeks), it may sound like extravagant praise — or maybe like faint praise. In any case, modesty can be numbered among the picture’s virtues, along with ingenuity.
Role in the Film
Chowder is one of the three main playable characters in the video game, along with DJ and Jenny. At that moment, Nebbercracker returns home by ambulance, revealing that he's still alive, and that it was actually Constance's spirit that was controlling the house. Chowder and Jenny urge DJ not to go near the house again, but DJ tells Nebbercracker that he knows about his past anyway, leading him to explain everything. Chowder is a chubby, and muscular twelve-year-old boy, with blonde hair, and blue eyes. He wears a light blue shirt, beige pants, and a red cape, right up until the climax of the film, when he is forced to take it off so he doesn’t get eaten by Constance.

They offer the dummy to the house to eat, hoping to put the house to sleep so they can find its "heart" (its furnace). Landers and Lister then inadvertently foil the plan as the former discovers the stolen medicine; as they attempt to arrest the trio, the house soon eats them all. Separated from the officers, the children explore the sleeping house and end up in its basement. They find all the toys Nebbercracker had stolen and a shrine to his wife, Constance the Giantess, whose skeletal remains are encased in cement.
Chowder stand up to his real height of 6ft 9in, and tombstones Nebbercracker in his godforsaken lawn. As the ambulance arrives, Chowder frames his friend DJ, and smiles as DJ is arrested for murder. Later, when thinking of a plan to kill the Monster House, DJ tells Chowder he could borrow some cold medicine from his Dad's pharmacy, so they could use it to fill a dummy they build to feed to the house to put it to sleep. Chowder at first refuses since he doesn't want to steal drugs from his Dad, or go inside a monster or die, but then changes his mind when Jenny suggests it's worth a shot. So Chowder goes to his Dad's pharmacy and steals some bottles of cold medicine from there to use to fill up their dummy to feed to the house.
Feature films
DJ, Chowder, and Jenny escape from the car, but they are trapped in the house. They fall into the basement and find an enormous collection of toys accumulated from Nebbercracker's lawn, as well as a locked cage that DJ opens with a key he found on the lawn. They find the body of Constance the Giantess (Kathleen Turner), Nebbercracker's wife, encased in cement. DJ, Chowder, and Jenny force the house to vomit them outside by grabbing onto its uvula. That night, DJ, believing strange things are going on at Nebbercracker's house, calls Chowder at his house and asks him to help investigate the house.
Film
Chowder is first seen wearing a rubber monster mask and almost getting hit by DJ's parents' car when they leave town for the weekend for a dentists convention. Chowder paid $28 on a basketball and loses his basketball on Nebbercracker's lawn. Chowder wants DJ to recover it but DJ told him that it doesn't exist anymore.
But, his victory is short-lived; while Chowder is jumping for joy, Constance rebuilds the house in a more terrifying form, much to his dismay. As DJ and Jenny climb to the top of a crane so they can throw a stick of dynamite down the chimney, Chowder resumes fighting the house. Unfortunately, the house gains the upper hand and eats the excavator before directing its attention towards Chowder again. The house ultimately grabs Chowder by the cape, forcing him to untie it.
DJ and Jenny then climb to the top of a crane while Chowder distracts once was once Nebbercracker's house and the excavator is eaten. When DJ and Jenny reach the crane's arm, DJ was very scared to do it, Jenny tells him that he can and kisses him, giving him the confidence to do so. The trio sees Nebbercracker having the final touch with Constance's spirit before she fades away. Dustin James "DJ" Walterson is the titular main protagonist of Sony Animation’s first full-length animated feature film, Monster House. He is a 12-year-old boy who is known for spying on Horace Nebbercracker and his house through a telescope. He acts, and is treated, like a younger boy and is often thought to be crazy.
They learn that the house is a "Domus Mactabilis" (Latin for "Deadly Home") a monstrous being created when a human soul (vengeful) merges with a structure. They assume the house is inhabited by Mr. Nebbercracker's soul and that the only way to kill the house is to destroy its heart, its source of life. They conclude that the heart must be the fireplace, as DJ realizes that the chimney has been smoking since Nebbercracker's heart attack.
